TEARTEAR Australia recognises the strategic importance of coconuts for tropical island communities and has paid for
Crawford FundThe Crawford fund recognises the work of Kokonut Pacific as this except from page 5 of their page at http://www.crawfordfund.org/awareness/catalyst03.pdf The ATSE Crawford Fund has supported this project since 1999, when the New South Wales committee funded Dr Etherington and Petelo Muaau, an artisan from Samoa, to run a DME training course in Tuvalu. The Tuvalu Government, who had requested the course, provided local support. Sixteen local participants constructed a drier and learnt about the many aspects of producing and marketing oil. Tuvalu hopes to establish a DME services centre that would support all stages of a local industry. By reducing labour and increasing the value of the product, this initiative could raise living standards and encourage the people of Tuvalu to protect their fragile environment. The ATSE Crawford Fund has helped another Pacific island nation, Kiribati, to benefit from the DME technique, by providing training for members of a women’s coconut oil project.
