- Coconut oil that has been kept at room
temperature for a year has been tested, and showed
no evidence of rancidity.
- In animal studies, feeding unprocessed coconut and
coconut oils prevented tumor development, both malignant
or benign.
- It lowers cholesterol if it is high and raises
it if it is too low.
- Coconut oil is anti-viral, anti-bacterial and
anti-fungal in the originating plant, in our gut and in
our blood. Reducing seed oil consumption and using
coconut milk or coconut oil as the dietary staple is
reversing viral loads in HIV, eliminating all types of
herpes virus and reducing or preventing other viral
diseases including the yearly 'flus' and measles. The
antiviral effect seems to be against lipid-enveloped
viruses and is due to the presence of lauric acid in
coconut oil.
- Coconut oil is unique in its ability to prevent
weight-gain or cure obesity, by stimulating the
metabolism. It is quickly metabolized, and functions in
some ways as an antioxidant. Every study using natural,
unprocessed coconut oil found a normalizing of
cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure. This is
also true of extra virgin olive oil, peanut oil and
avocado oil.
All current research data declaring the
harmfulness of coconut oil has been compiled from
studies using hydrogenated oils. The conclusions
drawn in these studies cannot factually be applied
to the use of unprocessed tropical oils. All
hydrogenated fats and oils, including margarine,
shortening and all other hydrogenated and partially
hydrogenated vegetable oils found in cookies,
candies, baked goods, boxed to bake items, canned
foods and most restaurant foods contribute to
degenerative diseases including heart disease,
diabetes, obesity, hypertension, stroke, depression,
hypoglycaemia, thyroid disorders and cancer.

Coconut oil intake will lead to cholesterol, a myth:
01 August, 2005
Cardiologist Coimbatore :
It is only a myth created by the Western countries
that consumption of coconut oil will lead to
cholesterol, a visiting cardiologist from London
University Dr B M Hegde has said. The Western countries,
in order to promote business and sell Soya and other
refined oils manufactured by them, were spreading that
refined oils, particularly oils with longer shelf life
were harmful for health, he said, delivering the keynote
address at a seminar on ''Coconut for Health,''
organised by the Coconut Development Board here
yesterday.
Coconut oil contained some saturated fats compared to
other oils, but majority of the saturated fats in the
coconut oil were medium chain. However, the short chain
fatty acids were good for human beings, Dr Hegde said.
Foods made out of fresh coconut oil were good for
humans, he said and pointed out that Polynesian
islanders, who used to take 90 per cent of their intake
from the coconut tree never had ''heart attack''
problems and lived longer. Stating that coconut oil was
known for protecting human beings against certain
cancers, Dr Hegde said the type and quantity of fats
matters a lot in the growth of ''Rogue cells,'' the seed
of all cancers in the human body. Coconut oil plays a
vital role in discouraging the ''Rogue cells'' from
growing further, he added.
Dr Hegde, who is a Prof of Human Health in the
University of Northern Colorado, United States, said 50
per cent of the saturated fats in the coconut oil is
''Lauric acid,'' a medium chain acid which gets
converted to mono laurin in the human body. The medium
chain acid kills virus like HIV, Cytlomegalo, Herpes and
Influleza, besides several bacteria in the human body,
he said. Most of the women in Kerala, who use coconut
oil regularly for bathing and apply it on skins do not
suffer from dandruff and fungus, Dr Hegde said.

Dr Jill Engelmann
Dr Jill Engelmann's recent talk on the
perspectives
program on ABC Radio National explained the link
between highly processed foods, including
polyunsaturated oils, and rampant obesity, heart
disease, diabetes and macular degeneration. In her
trial, overweight patients took a dessertspoon of virgin
coconut oil about 15mins before each meal of natural,
traditional food. The improvements in health and loss of
excess weight were very impressive, with many being able
to come off their medications. Jill along with others
has also been critical of the CSIRO’s new diet book “ CSIRO
Total Wellbeing Diet” saying it is flawed. In the
book they have still labelled coconut oil as being
unhealthy because it is a saturated fat.

AIDS Victim Tells of Healing
Virtues of Coconut Oil
Quoted from the Healthy Ways
Newsletter E-Mail Edition Vol. 2 No. 2. Published by
Piccadilly Books, Ltd.,
www.piccadillybooks.com. Bruce Fife, N.D., Publisher
In coming out of the closet to tell his story Tony,
38, lends hope to thousands of AIDS sufferers worldwide.
“You don’t know how hard it is for one to have an
illness that others find repulsive…I had wanted to shut
myself inside my room and just wait for my time to die,”
Tony told symposium participants.
Tony was a guest speaker at a symposium titled “Why
Coconut Cures”, held in Manila, Philippines May14, 2005.
The symposium was headed by Dr. Bruce Fife, who was also
the keynote speaker. Other participants included
cardiologist Conrado Dayrit, dermatologist Vermen
Verallo-Rowell, biochemist Fabian Dayrit, and Senator
Jamby Madrigal.
Tony’s testimony, along with those of others
who had experienced dramatic recoveries from various
ailments, provided first-hand accounts of the use of
coconut oil in healing chronic health problems described
by symposium participants.
Beneath the sunglasses that he wore his eyes were
moist, not in self-pity but in triumph. Covered with a
cap and long sleeves, hides a body scarred by a disease
Tony contracted while working in the Middle East in the
1990s. Coming home in 2002, Tony was devastated to learn
that he was infected by the human immunodeficiency virus
(HIV). As the disease progressed, the pain he endured
came not only from the infections ravaging his body but
from the shame the disease had brought him. He felt like
giving up.
Drugs, which he could barely afford, could not
deliver him from the dreaded virus and the other
infections that were slowly draining away his life. His
body was covered with fungal infections, and oozing
sores accompanied by a chronic pneumonia infection that
caused a persistent cough. He knew he was losing the
battle as each day symptoms grew worse and he found it
increasingly more difficult to function and was
completely incapable of working.
Unable to afford medication he sought help
from the Department of Health. He was referred to Dr.
Conrado Dayrit, the author of the first clinical study
on the healing effects of coconut oil on HIV infected
patients, which was conducted at the San Lazaro hospital
in the Philippines. By this time Tony was diagnosed with
full blown AIDS and had little hope for recovery.
Dr. Dayrit secured a steady supply of coconut oil
for Tony’s use, free of charge. He was instructed to
apply the oil to his skin two to three times a day and
consume six tablespoonfuls daily without fail.
The program worked miracles. Each time Tony went to
the hospital for his periodic blood tests his viral load
decreased. Tony said that when he told hospital doctors
what he was taking, they could not believe that a simple
dietary oil was killing the virus better than all the
modern drugs of medical science.
Just nine months after his initial visit
with Dr. Dayrit, Tony appeared before the audience at
the symposium for all to witness his remarkable
recovery. The infections that once racked his body were
gone. Even HIV was no longer detectable. What used to be
skin sores all over his body were now just fading scars.
His life energy had been restored enough for him to give
an eloquent testimony of how something as simple and
natural as coconut oil could halt this deadly disease.
Evidence for coconut oil’s effect on HIV was
first discovered back in the 1980s when researchers
learned that medium chain fatty acids—the kind found in
coconut oil—possessed powerful antiviral properties
capable of destroying the AIDS virus. Since then
numerous anecdotal accounts of HIV patients using
coconut and coconut oil to overcome their condition
circulated in the AIDS community. Even basketball legend
Magic Johnson who retired from the NBA because he was
HIV positive is reportedly credited with using coconut
on his road to recovery. The first clinical study using
coconut on HIV patients was reported by Conrado Dayrit
in 1999. In this study HIV infected individuals were
give 3.5 tablespoons of coconut oil daily. No other
treatment was used. Six months later 60% of the
participants showed noticeable improvement. This was the
first study to demonstrate that coconut oil does have an
antiviral effect in vivo and could be used to treat HIV
infected individuals. Dr. Dayrit is now heading a larger
study in Africa using coconut oil in the treatment of
HIV.
The symposium “Why Coconut Cures” was based
on Dr. Bruce Fife’s recently published book
Coconut Cures. Philippine president Macapagal-Arroyo
recognized Dr. Fife’s relentless advocacy in educating
people about the healing properties of coconut. The
Philippine Department of Agriculture will publish the
Philippine edition of
Coconut Cures, which is scheduled for release in
that country August 2005.

The Miracle of Coconut
Oil digestion and weight loss
By Bruce Fife, N.D.
Do you eat low-fat and fat free foods and shun
fat at every opportunity to avoid gaining weight? If
so, that may be one of your problems. The belief
that eating fat makes you fat is no longer
considered accurate. Some fats can actually help you
lose excess weight. Adding fat into your diet
may be the key in helping you shed spare pounds
you’ve been struggling with for years.
Not all fats, however, are alike. Some fats
promote weight loss better than others. One fat in
particular is gaining a reputation as an effective
aid in weight loss and is being recommended for use
in the prevention and treatment of obesity. This
miracle fat is coconut oil.
At one time coconut oil was criticized for its
saturated fat content but we now know that it is
composed of a very special group of saturated fats
known as medium-chain triglycerides (MCT). Research
has shown that MCT provide many health benefits, one
of which is aiding in weight loss.
What makes MCT different from other fats is the
way they are processed and metabolized by the body.
MCT are broken down and digested very easily. Unlike
other fats, they do not require pancreatic digestive
enzymes or bile for digestion.
The vast majority of fat digestion occurs in the
small intestine. Here pancreatic digestive enzymes
with the aid of bile break fats down into fatty
acids. These fatty acids are then absorbed into the
intestinal wall where they are packaged into bundles
of fat and protein called lipoproteins and sent into
the bloodstream. As these lipoproteins circulate in
the bloodstream they release particles of fat. This
is the fat that eventually ends up being packed into
our fat cells...
The MCT in coconut oil are processed differently.
MCT are broken down into individual fatty acids
before they leave the stomach. So when they enter
the small intestine they do not need any further
processing by digestive enzymes or bile. For this
reason, they are immediately absorbed into the
portal vein and sent directly to the liver,
bypassing the lipoprotein stage in the intestinal
wall. In the liver these medium-chain fatty acids
are used as a source of fuel and are burned to
produce energy. Therefore, the fat in coconut oil
does not circulate in the bloodstream to the degree
that other fats do and does not contribute fat to
our fat cells.
The MCT in coconut oil produce energy, not body
fat. The fact that MCT are used by the body as a
source of fuel, rather than being packed away as
body fat, provides many health benefits. The most
obvious is a boost in energy. This rise in energy
stimulates metabolism. Metabolism is shifted into a
higher gear. As metabolism increases the rate at
which we burn calories also increases. Therefore,
the calories we eat are consumed at a higher rate
leaving fewer to be converted into body fat.
Studies have shown that in normal weight
individuals after a single meal containing MCT
metabolism increases by 48%. In obese individuals
metabolism increases by an incredible 65%! So the
more overweight a person is the greater the effect
coconut oil has on stimulating metabolism and
encouraging weight loss.
This metabolic stimulating effect isn’t seen for
only an hour or two after eating. Studies have shown
that after a single meal containing MCT metabolism
remains elevated for a full 24 hours. So for 24
hours energy level is increased, metabolism is
running at a higher pace, and calories are burned
off at a greater rate. Calories consumed from other
foods are even burned off at a higher rate.
There was an interesting study published in the
journal
Metabolism. Volunteers were given one of three
diets—a low-fat diet, a high-fat diet, and a
high-fat diet consisting of MCT. The study lasted 44
days. At the end of the study those who received the
MCT had 60% less body fat then either of the other
groups.
Researchers at McGill University have calculated
that if all fats in the diet were replaced with an
oil that contained MCT, such as coconut oil, a
person could lose up to 36 pounds a year. This is
without dieting, changing the type of foods eaten,
or reducing the amount of calories consumed. When
combined with a sensible diet coconut oil can be an
effective aid in weight loss.
The benefits of coconut oil aren’t limited to
just an increase in energy and loss of excess body
fat. Because coconut oil increases metabolism it has
an effect over the entire body. When metabolism is
increased the body functions at a higher level of
efficiency; circulation improves, the rate of repair
and healing increases, the immune system is raised
to a higher level of efficiency, energy levels are
increased. There is an overall improvement in health
and well-being. Because of this and other reasons
coconut oil is proving to be of benefit in
preventing and alleviating many of the symptoms
associated with heart disease, diabetes, cancer,
liver disease, Crohn’s disease, chronic fatigue,
fibromyalgia, and hypothyroidism, to mention just a
few.

Why late sleepers complain of
pimples when they started taking VCO
...and
these pimples increased for weeks and so they stopped
taking it. VCO generally increases basic metabolic
functions in the body when applied topically in the
skin. It also increases the activities of the sebaceous
gland which is a halocline gland, meaning, it is the
whole gland itself that is extruded out and burst to
produce the sebum. Since it is closely associated with
the hair follicles. Once the hair follicles is also
clogged up and in time the sebum is to come out, that is
the time that pimples developed, secondary to clogged up
hair follicles. If you apply the VCO , and you stimulate
the glands activity to be extruded, especially at night,
when the hair follicles too is clogged up with sweat,
and secretions, this aggravates the condition. It is
best to apply the VCO after thoroughly cleaning the face
with soap and water. I hope I have given you a basic
understanding of how the VCO works on the skin in
relation with pimples.
