Australia Day Honour – a team effort

Founder and Managing Director of Kokonut Pacific Dr Dan Etherington was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the recent Australia Day Honours List for service to international trade, particularly the design, manufacture and distribution of coconut oil extraction technology, and through contributions to sustainable agricultural and economic development in the South Pacific region. Dan’s response was typically modest: "While the AM comes to me, it is not and has never been a 'solo flight.' It is really due to our whole Kokonut Pacific team…"

Bruce Fife on Kokonut Pacific
Extract from Bruce Fife’s “Healthy Ways Newsletter”. (read the full article on Kokonut Pacific Here) Bruce is the author of numerous books on coconut oil and founder of The Coconut Research Center.

On islands throughout the Pacific and elsewhere, there are few opportunities for communities to make money to pay for food, medicine, and education, let alone such things as roads and electricity. Coconuts are the primary resource in these areas, but until recently the only market for coconut was as copra (smoke-dried coconut) sold for the production of refined coconut oil. Revenue from copra, however, has been so small that these communities have struggled with poverty for decades. In order to help relieve poverty, efforts have been made to establish other types of industries in these communities that would be self-sustaining. In recent years the demand for virgin coconut oil and other coconut products has increased dramatically. This has provided a means by which many small communities throughout the tropical world could make a living. Many have turned to the pioneering work of an Australian, Dr Dan Etherington, and his Direct Micro Expelling (DME) process of producing virgin coconut oil. This process is relatively inexpensive and allows small communities to….. produce their own virgin coconut oil for export to bring in revenue, for their own use in cooking and body care, and for fuel to power generators and vehicles. Each community independently owns and operates its own business. Through the production of virgin coconut oil many communities around the world have been able to pull themselves out of poverty. Dan and his company, Kokonut Pacific, have provided the equipment and training for many of these small scale operations. (Read the full article on Kokonut Pacific Here)

Canadian distributor visits SI

Siegfried Gursche, “father of the Canadian health food industry” and our exclusive Canadian distributor, recently visited Kokonut Pacific in the Solomon Islands. The weather had been very bad leading up to the visit but he and wife Christel were blessed with clear sunny days while manager Colin Dyer showed them over the operations. “It was wonderful to see the results of hard work in a challenging environment”, reported Siegfried. “The Honiara warehouse is the busy heart of things but actually seeing oil produced at a village DME site was really the highlight for us. It is obvious how significant the DME program is to these remote communities.” Siegfried has written widely on health issues and founded Alive, Canada’s leading health magazine. More recently he has turned his energies to advocating Virgin Coconut Oil and particularly our Direct Micro Expelled oil. See www.alphahealth.ca

Expansion in the Solomons - Temotu will soon have DME

To cater for the growing demand for good quality virgin coconut oil around the world we are working in conjunction with our partner company, Kokonut Pacific Solomon Islands, to increase production and bring meaningful income to more isolated rural communities.

Soon there will be four new Direct Micro Expelling (DME) sites installed across Temotu Province, in the far east of the Solomon Islands. These DME units were funded under the European Union’s Micro Projects Program. Temotu’s great distance from Honiara presents a challenge and the initial proposal for two units was uneconomic for KPSI to manage. However, the EU have been sympathetic and have now approved another two units, taking the total to four across the province. This will reduce management costs significantly and is a real breakthrough which opens up opportunities for further expansion in this remote area.

Testimony

I love your coconut oil! I have tried a lot of different coconut oils and yours is by far the best tasting. I decided to look at your website after recently buying your oil for the first time and was even more pleased to see about the DME, economic, etc part of K.P. I am a very active 29 year old male. I consume a ridiculously large amount of calories and I like how the MCT's in C.O. fuel my body. I also put a little coconut oil in my dog’s food. I know this is such a random e-mail, but I just wanted you to know who is buying your stuff. You got a new customer too!
