Jack and his wife Sana are farmers in Fiji. He
told us his story: "Last year, I made 5 tons of copra which
earned us less than US$750. This year the copra price rose, so
we might have earned about $1,250 from copra. However, I actually
earned over $3,350 from my sales of DME oil. I was also able to
sell the residual presscake as stock feed. My extended family worked
with me and shared in this increased income."

After much planning, a new site in western Fiji is now bringing hope and smiles to the
villagers. As with the Solomons, the people were very rich in coconut trees but had no way to access their
own oil. Now they have the mechanism - a DME press which is empowering and benefiting the
people who operate it as well as their whole village community. The picture on the left shows the
red team at work while on the right Kanta, one of our trained project installers, presses oil.
After much work and planning this
enterprising Fijian Businessman has launched the first of a series
of planned sites in the eastern Fijian Islands. This man has
the potential to run a business fairly and honestly and has a deep
concern for looking after the welfare of the land and the people .
He has also had much experience in corporate business .
